I was selected to attend Squadron Officer School early – only a
first lieutenant. Most officers attending were already captains. SOS
is a professional military education program held at Maxwell Air Force
Base, Alabama. We studied leadership, teamwork, war strategy, and
military history. I received the Excellence in Briefing (speaking)
award. I also played soccer for the first time.
